I had to take Mr. Pumpkin to the vet today because he didn't seem to want to open his left eye. Not only that, but it was kind of oozing and he didn't want me to touch it. As cute as he was winking at me (I was tempted to put a pirate patch on him), I was worried about him.
So the vet gave me some ointment to put in his eye twice a day. He said that this could be a respiratory infection that he had as a kitten. Sometimes they can come back later to bother the grown-up kitty.
But the good news is that Mr. Pumpkin has lost 3/4 of a pound since we started his diet this year. He is down to 18 pounds, 11 ounces. Yay, Punkin!

Mr. Pumpkin,
Congratulations on the weight loss. I was sorry to hear about your eye but I'm sure that if you let your human apply the ointment, it will get better.
Sincerely,
Hector & Hamish's Human
Poor pumpkin :( Seems the feed cage is working at least.
The cage-feeding apparently wasn't enough to reduce Mr. Pumpkin's bulk. After seeing the vet around the beginning of the year and being scolded for Pumpkin's weight, I've switched both kittehs to an all-canned diet. The carbohydrate content in dry food is too much for some house tigers to handle. So the 3/4 pound weight loss is just in the last two months, which is pretty good! And his coat looks so much better, too. Much less oily and dandruffy. I'd make him read your blog, but I don't think he's really that concerned about his health. He'd rather find a sunny spot to take a nap.
